I loved sleepovers as a child. What kid doesn’t? Although it did take me a bit off guard when B began asking to sleepover at his best friend’s house at 3 1/2.
So what did I do? I let him.
I trust Bestie’s parents completely. Truth be told they are some of our closest friends here and we often do things together anyway. Before the kids were even born Bestie’s mom and I used to socialize together in our DC days. For C’s first birthday we hosted it jointly with Bestie’s family because it was their daughter’s first birthday, too. Our babies are two days apart and we delivered at the same hospital. It took us a little time, but Bestie’s mom and I figured out they were conceived after our families spent the day celebrating St. Patrick’s Day together.
But back to B and Bestie. Bestie only eats pizza crusts. B only wants the cheesy part. Bestie likes the icing on cupcakes. B will only eat the cake. Bestie is very much OCD in a good way.He doesn’t like to get messy and behaves more like he’s in pre-med than preschool. Meanwhile B loves a mess more than a pig loves shit. They are each other’s yin and yang. And I hope they stay this way forever. They truly are best friends.
This is their third sleepover together and B’s not even 4 yet. The first time was after Bestie’s 4th birthday in December. It was nice to catch a break and only have our two little ones to take care of. Going from 2 to 3 really is a huge difference. One night with just the Littles is a cakewalk.
The second time we hosted and I was nervous to have four kids in the house, but it was a dream. Not only does Bestie play so well with B, but he actually acknowledges J and plays with him, too. My poor middle child never gets any love from his brothers, but he does when Bestie is over!
Last night though was the greatest. The Littles went to bed early after a 2-hour long playdate at the park. M and I each had a glass of wine with our dinner and promptly fell asleep before 8:30. I slept until 7 this morning. I can’t remember the last time I’ve had nearly 12 hours of sleep. I feel amazing! We may have to set up more sleepovers soon. I don’t know who enjoys them more: the kids or the adults!
